Track and field team announces recruits

McNeese State track and field coach Brendon Gilroy announced the recruitment of four athletes during Wednesday's signing period. All four are currently enrolled in school and are participating with the team. The coach said that he hoped to be able to announce other recruits later in the week. The four that are now enrolled and participating are sprinters Dwight Charles and Aaron DeBourg of Trinidad and middle distance runners Michael Dyer of Northern Ireland and Sarah-Jayne Boyce of Sligo, Ireland. "They will be a big help to our team," he said, adding "but probably not until the outdoor season." Charles has personal bests of 48.02 in the 400 meters and 21.80 in the 200 meters while DeBourg has run a 48.45 in the 400 meters. Dyer has gone 1:51.76 in the 800 meters and has run a 49 second split on the 4x400 meter relay team. Boyce ran a leg on the Cowgirl distance medley team that finished second in last week's meet in Baton Rouge. The recruits: Dwight Charles - 200, 400 meters....Point Fortin, Trinidad & Tabago....enrolled in school now...personal best of 48.02 in the 400 meters and 21.80 in the 200 meters Aaron DeBourg - 400 meters....Port of Spain, Trinidad & Tabago....enrolled in school now...personal best of 48.45 in the 400 meters Michael Dyer - 400, 800 meters....Down, Northern Ireland....is a transfer from Lougmborough University...he is a graduate student in instructional technology...has a best of 1:5l.76 in the 800 meters...has also run a 49 split on the 4x400 meter relay Sarah-Jayne Boyce - middle distances...Sligo, Ireland...enrolled in school now...will also run cross country... |
