Vaalyn Jackson sets McNeese weight throw record at Houston indoor meet

Feb. 16, 2008

Vaalyn Jackson made his season debut a good one as he won the weight event and also set a McNeese State school record during the Houston all-comers indoor track and field meet here Saturday.

The Cowboy junior threw the weight 55-0 1/4 to break the school record of 54-5 1/4 that had been set earlier in the season by John Jamail.

Jackson also finished fourth in the shot put with a throw of 48-7 1/2.

Also in the weight throw, Freddie Hannie went 54-1 1/4 for third place and Jacob Domingue finished eighth at 48-0.

Jimmie Heath went 16-0 3/4 for an eighth place finish in the pole vault and DeAnn Washington put the shot 42-6 3/4 for seventh place in the women's division.

These were the only five McNeese athletes to compete in the meet.

Next week all of the Cowboys and Cowgirls will take part in the Southland Conference championship in Houston.
