The McNeese State Cowboys fell in non-conference action against Tulane here Tuesday night by a score of 10-3.

The Cowboys fall to 8-18 on the year heading into a Wednesday night game with ULM at Cowboy Diamond.

The Green Wave improved to 19-8 on the season with the win.

The Green Wave got on top early, scoring three runs in the bottom of the third inning after an error by the Cowboys extended the inning and allowed two unearned runs to score to make it 3-0.

Tulane added another run to make it 4-0 before the Cowboys were able to break through in the runs column.

In the top of the sixth inning, the Cowboys started off with a single by Sam Merrill. Josh Cholley then walked to put runners at second and third.

A Shon Landry single then loaded the bases with no outs. Taylor Freeman grounded out to second base to score Merrill and put the Cowboys on the board.

After a Bryn Thompson strikeout, Kanon Broussard put down a well placed bunt, forcing the Tulane third baseman to hurry his throw and commit an error, allowing Cholley and Landry to score and make it 4-3 in favor of Tulane.

Tulane came right back however, scoring four runs of their own in the bottom half of the sixth inning to put the game out of reach. The Green Wave added single runs in the bottom half of the seventh and eighth innings to put the final score at 10-3.

Both starters in the game earned decisions, with Dallas Smith falling to 2-2. He pitched five innings, allowing four runs, two of them earned, on four hits while walking three and striking out three.

Tulane starter Taylor Rogers earned his first win of the season, improving to 1-0 after going five innings, allowing two runs, one of them earned, on three hits while walking two and striking out six Cowboy batters.

The Cowboys were led offensively by Merrill, who went three-for-five with one run scored. Landry and Nick Eubanks each collected two hits for the Cowboys. Freeman picked up one hit on the night, as did Dave McChesney in a pinch-hitters role, going one-for-one at the plate.

Freeman had the only Cowboy RBI.

McNeese plays ULM on Wednesday night at Cowboy Diamond. Game time is set for 6:30 PM.
