The McNeese State baseball team was roughed up by a 21-9 score here tonight in a non-conference road game against the Louisiana-Monroe Warkhawks at Warhawk Field.

The Cowboys travel to Sam Houston State this Friday for a Southland Conference weekend series.

The Cowboys fall to 10-26 on the year while the Warhawks improve to 24-12 on the season.

The starting pitchers for each team got the decisions, as Jonathan Conrad fell to 1-5 on the year with the loss while Devin Pourciau improved to 2-1 on the season.

It was a game of offensive fireworks as the teams scored a total of 19 runs combined in the first three innings.

The Cowboys quickly fell behind after the Warhawks scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning to go up 2-0.

The Cowboys would respond however, as Keith Patnode reached on an error followed by singles from Justin Beitzel and Kanon Broussard to load the bases.

Mace Hebert stepped to the plate next and notched his first homerun of the season, a grand slam to the left-field side, hitting the scoreboard right above the wall to put the Cowboys up 4-2.

The lead would be short-lived, with the Cowboys giving up six runs in the bottom half of the inning to fall behind 8-4.

The Warhawks kept pouring it on, scoring runs in each of the first six innings, including a pair of six-run frames in the second and third.

The Cowboys scored one run in the third on a Taylor Freeman RBI double, two runs in the fifth on a Nick Eubanks two-run homerun and single runs in the seventh and ninth innings to finish its scoring on the night.

Patnode recorded an RBI single in the seventh and Tony Coniglio had an RBI groundout for the Cowboys final run in the ninth inning.

Leading the Cowboys offensively was Freeman, as he went 3-for-4 with two doubles to raise his batting average to .410 on the season.

Eubanks, Patnode and Beitzel each recorded two hits while Landry, Broussard and Hebert had one apiece.

Hebert led the Cowboys with four RBI. Eubanks accounted for two while Freeman, Coniglio and Patnode had one each.

The Cowboys travel to Huntsville, Texas on Friday to take on Sam Houston State in a three-game conference road series. First game is scheduled to start at 6:30 PM on Friday evening.

Tyler Davis will get the start for the Cowboys with Scott Holstein going Saturday and Ryan Frantz on Sunday.
