Josh Cholley drives in winning run in top of ninth for Cowboys
April 30, 2008 GRAMBLING, LA -- A ninth inning double by Josh Cholley plated Justin Beitzel with the game winning run in a 10-9 McNeese State victory over Grambling here Wednesday night. Cholley's double completed a comeback performance for the Cowboys who had taken a 7-2 lead after two innings only to let the Tigers score seven unanswered runs to go up 9-8 after six innings. The Cowboys got a run in the eighth to tie the game and then plated the winner in the top of ninth. It's the second straight win for McNeese which is now 12-33 on the season and heads on to Conway, AR for a three game Southland Conference series with Central Arkansas beginning Friday. This was also the second victory for the Cowboys in two outings with Grambling this season, McNeese having posted a 14-2 win in Lake Charles earlier in the year. Reliefer Justin LeBleu was the pitcher of record for McNeese when Cholley dropped his game winner down the right field line. He hurled the final 2.2 innings for the Cowboys and evened his record at 2-2. In a seven run second inning, the Cowboys connected on four hits. Kanon Broussard singled in a run, Taylor Freeman singled in two runs, Nick Eubanks singled in a run and Kyle Roth plated three runs with his third home run of the season. McNeese's solo run in the sixth came on a home run by Tony Coniglio and a sacrifice fly by Sam Merrill plated a run in the eighth. The Cowboys had 13 hits in the game and five Cowboys had two hits each, those being Merrill, Shon Landry, Freeman, Roth and Coniglio. Jonathan Conrad started the game on the mound for McNeese but he gave up seven runs and seven hits in 3.2 innings. Matt Click hurled 2.1 innings and gave up three hits and two runs while Todd Fontenot pitched only a third of an inning and gave up a walk. LeBleu's stint on the mound had him giving up no runs, two hits, two walks and striking out one.
