Cowboys go on the road to play Sam Houston State

McNeese State's baseball team journeys to Huntsville, TX this week for a three game series with Sam Houston State. The series begins Friday with first pitch slated for 6:30 p.m. Local radio station Cajun Radio 1470AM will broadcast all three games. Saturday's tile begins at 2 p.m. and Sunday's at 1 p.m. The Cowboys will be attempting to snap a five game losing streak. They are 10-26 on the season and 5-10 in league play. Sam Houston stands 22-14 overall and is 9-6 in conference action. This will be the only regular season meeting between the two teams. McNeese is in the eastern division of the conference and Sam Houston in the western division. Lefthander Tyler Davis is slated to be on the mound on Friday for the Cowboys. He's 3-6 on the season with a 5.59 ERA and has struckout 51 batters in 56.1 outings. He's split in his last two outings, beating Northwestern State where he tossed seven innings of no-hit ball and losing to UT Arlington where he pitched 7.1 innings of eight hit ball. Catcher Taylor Freeman leads the Cowboys at the plate with a .401 batting average. He's also tops on the team with seven home runs, 15 doubles and 39 RBIs. Outfielder Sam Merrill is batting .331 and designated hitter Keith Patnode is the only other player on the team above .300 with a .301 mark. In conference games only, Freeman is hitting 480. |
