Work continues on the Cowboy Stadium turf

March 5, 2008

Work is continuing at a steady pace for the re-surfacing of McNeese State's Cowboy football stadium.

A construction spokesman said Wednesday that the laying of the artificial turf should begin in approximately three weeks, weather permitting.

He said that continued work on the leveling and steadying of the field would take place the next two days with drainage work to begin next week.

The spokesman added that all of the dirt to be taken off the field has been removed.

McNeese is having its football stadium field replaced with an artifical turf, one of the top turfs in the nation.

Cowboy Stadium has had a grass turf since it was constructed in 1965. McNeese's stadium is the only one in the Southland Conference that does not have an artificial turf.

Local businessman Robert Noland provided the funds for the turfing of the stadium field with added funds supplied by McNeese booster clubs - the Cowboy Club, the Petrochem Athletic Association and the Quarterback Club.

This is the way the field looked early Wednesday morning.(photos and story by Louis Bonnette)
