McNeese State and Southern University to play in 2010

April 2, 2008

McNeese State and Southern University will resume their football rivalry on Sept. 18 in 2010 in Lake Charles.

Cowboy athletic director Tommy McClelland announced the return of Southern to the McNeese schedule. The game makes up for the 2005 contest that had to be postponed due to Hurricane Rita.

"I am very excited about this opportunity," McClelland said. "Cowboy fans had long desired and deserve this return game. Now we have a date to look forward to. I want to thank Greg LaFleur (Southern athletic director) for his help in making this happen. Although Southern owed us this return game per the original contract, it still took a lot of effort on his part to make it happen."

The two teams had first met in 2004 in Baton Rouge, the Cowboys taking a 35-18 victory. That game drew a crowd of 21,673.
