Cowboys shoot fifth best score of day at the SFA Bill Hill Golf Classic

LUFKIN, TX - McNeese State's Cowboys posted the fifth best score of the day in the final round of the SFA Bill Hill - Crown golf classic on Tuesday.

Led by an even par 72 from Sigmundur Masson and a two over par 74 by Cory Vincent, the Cowboys shot 298 which was 16 shots better than their second round and identical to their first round.

As a team, McNeese finished ninth in the tournament with a 910 total. Wichita State won the team title with an 845 score while other totals had Oklahoma Christian at 872, UM-Kansas City 875, Oklahoma City 886, Central Arkansas 899, Stephen F. Austin 900, Oral Roberts 903, UT Pan American 909 and Northwood U. 941.

Ryan Spears of Wichita State shot three under par 69 on Tuesday and won the individual title with a 206 score, four shots lower than teammate Ty Sanders who placed second.

Masson led the Cowboys and finished in 16th place with 72-78-72--222. Vincent finished in a tie for 34th place lat 77-77-74--228 while Brandon Eaton tied for 36th at 76-77-76---229. Other Cowboy scoring had Kyle Collins at 73-82-76---231 and Derek Bonvillian at 79-85-79---243.

"I thought that the team did a good job of coming back today," McNeese head coach Neel DeRouen said. "I saw some positive things out there, some things that we can build on."
