Brittany Boone Leads Cowgirls With 10 Points

Cowgirls Run Into A Hot Shooting Texas State Team

Feb. 15, 2008

Box Score

SAN MARCOS, Texas--What has been the Cowgirls' offense this season, turned out to be Texas State's here Thursday night as the Bobcats claimed a 99-50 Southland Conference victory. The Bobcats clicked on all cylinders and produced their best offensive night of the season, especially from three-point range. The Bobcats made a school record 11 three-pointers in the first half on 15 attempts for 61.5 percent and held a 62-14 halftime lead. The 62 first half points is also a school record. Texas State ended the game with 13 three-pointers.

Texas State took a quick 13-0 lead before the Cowgirls scored their first points of the game off a Conceita Cutrer jumper at the 14:51 mark.

McNeese didn't have its best first half shooting from the field, making five of 23 for a 21.7 percent but bounced back in the second half to score 36 points and shot 46.2 percent. McNeese ended the game shooting 34.7 percent from the field and 70.6 percent from from the free throw line. The Cowgirls held Texas State to 37 second half points.

The Cowgirls struggled with Texas State's pressure and were outrebounded 49-16. "We had a rough one tonight. We have to learn from tonight, refocus mentally and get ready for Texas-Arlington on Saturday," said head coach Brooks Donald Williams.

The Cowgirls settled down and Texas State cooled off in the second half as the second as McNeese allowed the Bobcats to outscore them by one point (37-36).

"We played much better in the second half. I thought we regrouped and came out with some fight. We must give it a total team effort in order to win. We are not a team that can win with one player scoring in double figures."

Senior Brittany Boone was the only Cowgirl who scored in double figures. Boone scored 10 points and was 4 of 11 from the field.

McNeese returns to Southland Conference play Saturday to host Texas-Arlington at 4 p.m. in the Cowgirls' "Think Pink" game. All fans wearing pink and/or their Ethel Precht Hope t-shirt will be admitted free. Mrs. Precht, a cancer breast survivor will serve as the Cowgirls' honorary coach.
