KINDER--Florida International claimed the third annual Cowgirl Invitational Women's Golf Championship here Sunday by setting a new team tournament total with a 920. The Panthers claimed a one shot victory over defending champions South Alabama who shot a tournament total of 921. McNeese State placed eighth at 960.

Florida Internataional's Christina Marin was the individual medalist, tying an individual low tournament total of 222 which is held by McNeese's Lisa Westman. Westman set the record in the inaugural Cowgirl Invitational in 2006.

McNeese State was led by junior Maggie Welch's fifth place finish with a 225, three shots behind the lead. Welch shot a par 72 in the opening round and followed that with rounds of 75 and 78.
