VICTORIA, Tx.-- McNeese State's women's golf team placed fifth in the 12 team field here Tuesday at the Claude Jacobs Intercollegiate hosted by Texas State. The Cowgirls entered the final round in fifth place after two rounds Monday and shot a final round of 314 and a tournament total 954.

Sam Houston State won the team title with a come from behind win. The Bearkats won title with a 904 tournament score, nine shots ahead of second place Lamar (913). Texas State finished third at 924 followed by Central Arkansas with a 938.

Sam Houston State's Jennifer Heinz was the individual medalist with a 218, a five shot winner over Lamar's Linda Persson who shot a 223. Heinz fired a final round 69 after a first round 77 and second round 72 to take the individual honor.

Maggie Welch was the Cowgirls' top finisher with a tie for 11th place. Welch entered the final round in a tie for 15th. Welch shot a 75 in the final round for a total of 232 for the tournament. Lacy McKinley tied for 25th with a 238, Jennifer Herrmann finished in a tied for 33rda at 242, Jacy Reynolds tied for 37th at 244 and Randi Fischer tied for 50th with a 257.

The Cowgirls will conclude their season April 21-23 at the Southland Conference Tournament in Beaumont, Texas.
