BEAUMONT, Tx.-- McNeese State's women's golf team placed seventh at the 2008 Southland Conference Championship Tournament here today with a tournament total of 940. Texas State won the team title and earned the league's first NCAA automatic bid after shooting a tournament total of 907, three shots ahead of Lamar and Sam Houston State.

Texas State's Linn Gustafsson was the individual medalist with a new SLC Tournament total of 220. Gustafsson held the lead from day one with a 71 in the opening round, 72 in the second round and ended the tournament with a third round 77.

McNeese State headed into the final round in sixth place but dropped one spots after posting a final round 323. Lacy McKinley led the Cowgirls all tournament and ended the tournament tied for fourth. McKinley headed into the final round in a second place tie with a 148 but shot seven over par 78 in the final round for a tournament total 226. McKinley tied with Lamar's Hillary Zeigler.

The other Cowgirl results had Maggie Welch tying for 24th with a 237, Randi Fischer and Jennifer Herrmann tied for 31st with 241 and Jacy Reynolds finished in 38th place with 254. Reynold's shot her lowest collegiate round of 80 in the final round.
