Softball Drops Doubleheader To Louisiana Tech
April 16, 2008 LAKE CHARLES-- McNeese State's softball team dropped a non-conference doubleheader to Louisiana Tech here Wednesday night 2-0 and 9-1 to fall to 17-32 on the season. Louisiana Tech's two runs in the sixth came on a RBI triple from Amberly Waits that scored Emma Barnes and a RBI single by Kylie Bassett scored Waits. Krissi Oliver picked up the complete game victory for the Lady Techster's who gave up five hits and struck out two to improve to 12-11 on the year. McNeese's hits came from the bats of Jenny Clay, Holly Long, Megan Beard, Molly Guidry and Whitney Corbello who had singles. The Cowgirls left seven base runners stranded and La. Tech left five. Bethany Stefinsky took the complete game loss, falling to 3-10 on the year. She struck out eight and gave up six hits. In the nightcap, Louisiana Tech took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a RBI single by Waits that scored Barnes. Barnes led the inning off with a double then stole third. McNeese tied the game in the bottom of the second when Guidry led the inning off with a walk, advanced to second after King was hit by a pitch and went to third on a Ritchie walk. Guidry scored on a RBI fielder's choice by Lindsey Langner. The score remained tied at 1-1 until La. Tech scored four runs on four hits and a Cowgirl error in the sixth to take a 5-1 lead. Three of the five runs came from a homer by Summer Young. The other two runs came from a RBI from Jessica Kirby and the Cowgirl error. Louisiana Tech broke the game open with four more runs in the seventh on three hits for a 9-1 lead. A trio of Cowgirl pitchers gave up 15 hits in the nightcap. Starter Michelle LaVoie held the Techster's to one run on seven hits in four innings. Relievers Candace Duhon and Carmen Sittig struggled in the circle. Duhon gave up four runs on four hits in 1 1/3 innings and was on the losing end while Sittig also gave up four runs on four hits in 1 2/3 innings. McNeese was credited with four hits off of Meghan Krieg and Jordan Simmons. Clay was 2 for 3, Langer was 1 for 3 with the only Cowgirl RBI and Ritchie was 1 for 2. McNeese will return to Southland Conference play this weekend when the Cowgirls travel to Central Arkansas for a three game series. A 2 p.m. doubleheader is scheduled for Saturday and a single game at Noon Sunday. |
