Junior Rachel King Leads The Cowgirls With Two Doubles

Cowgirls Eliminated From Southland Conference Tournament

May 8, 2008

Box Score

SAN MARCOS, Texas-- McNeese State's softball team was eliminated from the Southland Conference Softball Tournament here Thursday evening with a 8-0 loss at the hands of fourth seed Stephen F. Austin.

Stephen F. Austin jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the first inning and the Cowgirls just couldn't get the timely hits as the Cowgirls left seven base runners stranded and at least one stranded in scoring position in the second, third, fourth and sixth innings and had a runner on third with two outs twice.

A three run, three hit first inning including a two run homer by Briana Bishop gave the Ladyjacks the quick lead. After three and a half scoreless inning, Stephen F. Austin added four more runs in the fifth on three hits and one Cowgirl error to increase its lead to 7-0. Stephen F. Austin ended the run rule game on a sacrifice fly to left by Kendal Harper that scored Crystal Garcia to end the game in the bottom of the sixth.

Designated player Rachel King led the Cowgirls with two of McNeese's five hits in the game. Both of Kings hits were doubles with one coming in the second inning and the other in the sixth. The other Cowgirls hits were singles from Lindsey Langner, Jenny Clay and Holly Long.

Bethany Stefinsky took the loss for the Cowgirls, ending the season with a 9-13 record. Stefinsky struck out five and gave up eight hits in five innings of work.

McNeese ends its season with a 23-36 overall record.
