Softball Team Travels To San Antonio For Southland Conference Series

McNeese State's softball team (7-13, 2-1 SLC) will travel to San Antonio, Texas this weekend to face Texas-San Antonio in a three game Southland Conference series beginning at 1 p.m. Saturday. The series will conclude with a single game Sunday beginning at Noon. The series can be followed on Live Stats by logging on to goUTSA.com. The Cowgirls are coming off a 2-1 Southland Conference opening series victory over Northwestern State. McNeese has five players hitting above .300 with senior Jenny Clay leading the team with a .370 average. Clay has a .609 slugging percent and has stolen 12 out of 13 bases. She is also tied for a team high two home runs. Freshman Holly Long is second on the team with a .319 average with five doubles and eight home runs. She leads the team with 14 walks. Michelle LaVoie is batting .318 and leads the team with 16 RBI's. LaVoie also leads the pitching staff with a 5-5 overall record, 54 innings pitched and 18 strikeouts. Molly Guidry and Liz Morvant are also batting over .300. Guidry has a .316 average and leads the team with 18 runs scored and is second on the team with 14 RBI's and has stolen 13 out of 14 bases. Morvant is batting .314 with 16 hits and eight stolen bases. Lindswy Langner is the team leader with 20 hits with 11 runs scored and five RBI's. UTSA enters the series with a 5-8 overall record and 1-2 in league play after a Southland Conference opening series against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. UTSA leads the all-time series 33-20 and hold a 16-9 all time record against McNeese State in games played in San Antonio. McNeese State has won the past two series between the two teams and defeated UTSA 2-1 in the last meeting. McNeese dropped the first game 15-2 then bounce back to claim the next two games 3-2 and 10-4. |
