Softball Travels To Southern Miss Today For A Non-Conference Doubleheader

McNeese State's softball team will travel to Hattiesburg, Miss. today to face Southern Miss (9-10) in a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 5 p.m. The Cowgirls (7-16) will look to get back into the win column after dropping a Southland Conference series at Texas-San Antonio last weekend. Senior Jenny Clay leads the Cowgirls in five offensive categories including a .352 batting average and .574 slugging percent. Clay also leads the team with 31 total bases and is tied for a team high 18 runs scored, six doubles and two home runs. Also hitting above .300 is Lindsey Langner at .329, Holly Long (.315) and Michelle LaVoie (.314). Langner leads the team with 25 hits and 76 at bats while LaVoie is the team leader with 18 RBI's and five pitching victories. She also leads the pitching staff with 20 strikeouts and 61.1 innings pitched. Long leads the team with a .464 on base percent and 14 walks. Molly Guidry is the team leader with 14 stolen bases and is tied for a team high 18 runs scored. Southern Miss enters the doubleheader on a seven game losing streak after losing three games at the LSU Tournament. The Eagles are coached by former McNeese State assistant, Howard Dobson. Dobson is in his first season at Southern Miss after serving the past five seasons as an assistant coach at Oklahoma. |
