Cowgirls Travel To Texas-Arlington This Weekend

McNeese State's softball team returns to Southland Conference play today when the Cowgirls travel to Arlington, Texas to face Texas-Arlington in a three game Southland Conference series. A doubleheader is scheduled for 1 p.m. today and a single game at noon Sunday.

McNeese (15-25 overall, 8-7 SLC) enters the series in sixth place in the league standings while Texas-Arlington is right behind the Cowgirls in seventh place with a conference record of 9-9 and 15-16 overall record.

Senior Jenny Clay continues to lead the Cowgirls with a .402 batting average, .696 slugging percent, 28 runs scored and 13 doubles. She also leads the SLC in doubles. Clay is tied for a team high five home runs and has 20 RBI's on the year.

Michelle LaVoie leads the pitching staff with eight victories on the year and a 3.72 ERA, 109 innings pitched and 38 strikeouts. The Cowgirls enter the game having won their last three games and seven of their last eight games.

Texas-Arlington enters the series on a three game winning streak also after defeating Prairie View A&M 12-4 and 3-0 on Wednesday. The Maverick have won four of their last six games and rank third in the SLC with a .278 team batting average and rank second in the SLC with a team ERA of 2.36. The Mavericks are led by Heather Frontenberry's .375 batting average.
