Cowgirls Drop Home Opener
Feb. 4, 2008 LAKE CHARLES- McNeese State's women's tennis team dropped its home opener 7-0 to Louisiana-Lafayette here Monday at the Recreational Courts. The match was closer than the scores indicate as Louisiana-Lafyette took a 1-0 lead by winning the doubles point. In singles play, the Cowgirls dropped all six despite a Victoria Martinez 10-2 third set loss at the no. 2 singles to Myrthe Molenveld. Molenveld won the first set 6-4 and Martinez came back to even the match at one set apiece with a second set 6-4 victory. McNeese fell short of another singles victory at no. 6 when Inga Efimenko fell 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) in a tie-breaker. The loss drops the Cowgirls to 0-2 on the year while Louisiana-Lafayette improves to 2-1 on the year. McNeese will be back in action Saturday when the Cowgirls travel to Southern Saturday for a 1:30 p.m. match. |
