Tennis Team Picks Up First Victory of the Season

BATON ROUGE-- McNeese State's women's tennis team picked up its first victory of the season with a 4-3 win over Southern Saturday.

The Cowgirls won two out of the three doubles played to pick up the doubles point to take a 1-0 early lead. Meri Gol Alamo teamed with Victoria Martinez to defeat Janelle Mosley and Betlehem Workench 8-5 at no. 1 and Natascha Jongeneel and Inga Efimenko defeated Gabrielle Marshall and Sydney Lartigue 8-2 at no. 3.

The Cowgirls then went on to win three of the six singles matches to win the overall match and its first win of the season.

Alamo and Efimenko picked up their second victory of the day at no. 1 and no. 6, respectively. Alamo defeated Mosley 6-3, 6-2 and Efimenko defeated Marshall 6-4, 6-3. Petra Gudelj defeated Lartigue 6-2, 6-1 at no. 5 for the Cowgirls' other point.

McNeese (1-2) will travel to Houston this Saturday for a 2p.m. match against the University of Houston before hosting Louisiana Tech Sunday at 12:30 p.m.
