Cowgirls Defeat Louisiana Tech 6-1
Feb. 17, 2008 LAKE CHARLES- McNeese State's women's tennis team picked up their first home victory of the season here Sunday with a 6-1 win over Louisiana Tech. Despite playing against a Louisiana Tech team that had five players, the Cowgirls would have picked up the victory. The win improves the Cowgirls' record to 2-2. The Cowgirls started the match with a no. 3 doubles match victory due to the lack of players. The Cowgirls went on to win the other two doubles matches to win the doubles point. McNeese's Meri Gol Alamo teamed with Victoria Martinez at the no. 1 doubles to defeat Rocio Martinez and Adriana Makowska 8-3. Maria del Rocio and Petra Gudelj defeated Ashely Wedderburn and Mallory Smith 8-3 at the no. 2 doubles. McNeese went on to win five of the six singles matches with Alamo defeating Juarez 6-0, 6-0 at the no. 1. Martinez defeated Wedderburn 6-1, 6-2 at no. 3, Guedelj defeated Smith 6-2, 6-0 at no. 5 and Rocio defeated Makowska in a tie-breaker 5-7, 6-3, 10-6 at the no. 4 singles. The only Cowgirl singles loss on the day was at the no. 2 spot where Natascha Jongeneel fell 6-1. 6-1 to Alexandra Gaspar. The Cowgirls will travel to Houston Monday for a 2 p.m. match. This match was originally scheduled for Saturday but was postponed due to weather. |
