Swinson Named to Ripken League All-Star Game

July 22, 2008

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland right-handed pitching ace Scott Swinson was named to the Cal Ripken, Sr. Collegiate Baseball League All-Star game and will represent the East team, the league announced Tuesday.

Swinson, who was named the league's most outstanding pitcher a season ago, has been dominant on the mound for Youse's Maryland Orioles this summer, posting a 5-1 record in seven starts with an ERA of 1.03. Swinson has struck out 39 batters to only 11 walks and opponents are hitting a measly .132 against him.

A junior who transferred from George Washington last season, Swinson had a banner first year in College Park, leading the team in wins and strikeouts. Swinson pitched the sixth no-hitter in program history in last season's final game at Delaware and also earned victories at Wake Forest and against national power North Carolina.

Swinson and the Orioles currently boast the best record in the league at 31-7.

The All-Star Game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. tonight at Shirley Povich Field in Bethesda, Md. Audio of the game will be available live on the Internet at WMUCSports.com.
