Terps Finish Eighth at ACC Championships

ATLANTA, Ga. - The Maryland men's swimming and diving team finished eighth in the 2008 ACC Championships held at the Georgia Institute of Technology. The Terrapins compiled a final total of 235 points to place ahead of Duke, Boston College and the University of Miami.

Sophomore Dong Kim finished fourth in the 100-yard freestyle, swimming an NCAA-B qualifying time of 44.17 for 15 points. Also placing in the event was freshman Nick Cordes (10th), freshman Mitch Challacombe (31st) and sophomore Ryan Greene (36th).

The Terps captured 11 points in the 200-yard backstroke. Freshman Chris Sanford finished eighth with a final time of 1:51.27. Junior Eric Cullen also finished eighth in the 200-yard breaststroke to add another 11 to the Terrapins total.

Senior Captain Eric Thomasson and sophomore Aleksandar Damjanic finished 10th and 11th in the 200-yard butterfly to compile 13 points for the Terps. Thomasson swam an NCAA-B cut qualifying time of 1:48.04 while Damjanic finished with a 1:49. 41.

The Terps closed the day with another NCAA-B cut qualifying time in the 400-yard freestyle relay. Kim, junior Andy Dilz, Challacombe and Cordes finished in the fifth slot, earning 28 points with a final time of 2:58.67.
