Seven school records fall at 2008 ACC Men's Championships

ATLANTA, Ga. - University of Maryland swimmers Dong Kim and Eric Cullen each hit the qualifying standards for this summer's U.S. Olympic Trials with their efforts Sunday at the Georgia Tech Long Course Invitational.

The meet was a last-chance meet for student-athletes to earn qualifying marks for the NCAA Nationals, to be held later this month in Federal Way, Wash.

Kim, a junior from Bucks County, Pa., went 23.14 in the 50-meter freestyle. That mark, converted to 19.90 in yards, is his best of the season. Kim already owns an NCAA B-cut for that meet in the 50 free.

Cullen, a junior from Severn, Md., went 1:03.86 in the 100-meter breaststroke, surpassing the qualifying mark of 1:04.69. Cullen was Maryland's top finisher in the 100 breast at last weekend's Atlantic Coast Conference championships hosted by Georgia Tech.

At the ACC Men's Championship, there were seven Maryland school records that fell. Those marks and the previous records are listed below:

200-Yard Medley Relay - Dong Kim, Eric Cullen, Nick Cordes, Andy Dilz, 1:28.70 (old mark: 1:29.20, D.Childs, Ward, Peterson, Brannan, 2000).
