Women's Basketball's Richardson Will Pursue Other Career Opportunities

April 19, 2008

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland women's basketball head coach Brenda Frese has announced that Diane Richardson, who served as an assistant coach during the 2007-08 campaign, will not return to the bench next season. Richardson has decided to pursue other career opportunities.

"We appreciate Diane's efforts this year and her contributions to a great season," said Frese. "We are thankful for all her support as a member of this staff and as a long-time fan, and we wish her luck in the future."

A Washington, D.C., area native, Richardson joined the Terrapin staff last season, helping the team win 33 games, including 13 ACC games. The Terps advanced to the NCAA Elite Eight for the second time in three years. Richardson served on the American University women's basketball staff for a season prior to coming to College Park, Md. She made the jump to the collegiate ranks after spending six seasons at Riverdale Baptist High School in Riverdale, Md.

A national search for a replacement will begin immediately.
