Terps Finish Fifth in EAGL Championship

MORGANTOWN, W. Va. - The University of Maryland gymnastics team notched season-high event scores on vault and floor exercise, sparking it to a fifth-place finish in the 2008 East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) Championship Saturday evening at the WVU Coliseum. The Terrapins tallied a team score of 193.375, while West Virginia won the title with a 196.050. NC State scored a 195.475 for second place, New Hampshire was third (194.550), North Carolina was fourth (193.950), Pittsburgh placed sixth (193.175), George Washington was seventh (192.975) and Rutgers finished eighth (189.025).

In the first rotation, the Terrapins nailed six vaults for a season-best event total of 48.775. Sophomore Brandi George vaulted to a career-best of 9.850 (T-4th). Sophomore Talia Tossone scored 9.775 and freshman Abigail Adams matched her season-best of 9.750.

On uneven bars, Maryland totaled an event score of 47.850. Sophomore Allison Dama led the team with a 9.825 mark (T-2nd), followed by a 9.750 from sophomore Margaux Meeks.

Tossone led the Terps on balance beam with a 9.725 score, followed by a 9.700 from sophomore Michele Brenner. Maryland tallied a beam event total of 47.750.

Maryland saved the best for last and tallied a season-high of 49.000 on floor exercise. Brenner turned in the Terps' top score of 9.875, which tied her for fifth. Adams and senior Gretchen Kittelberger earned a pair of 9.80 scores.
