March 29, 2008

MORGANTOWN, W. Va. - Four sophomore University of Maryland gymnasts were named first team All-EAGL at the annual East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) Championships banquet Friday night at the Lakeview Resort in Morgantown, W. Va. Senior Gretchen Kittelberger received one of the four yearly awards, Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

Kittelberger was named the 2008 Scholar-Athlete of the Year and was the recipient of this honor in 2007. Kittelberger is a senior in eligibility, but earned her undergraduate degree in three years. She is currently a graduate student and has committed to attend the University of Virginia School of Law next year.

For the second year in a row, Brandi George earned first team All-EAGL honors in the all-around and on balance beam. George was also named to the All-EAGL second team on vault, uneven bars and floor exercise. Allison Dama was named to the All-EAGL first team on uneven bars, improving on receiving second team All-EAGL honors in 2007. Talia Tossone was named to the All-EAGL first team on balance beam. She was a second team All-EAGL member on beam in 2007. Michele Brenner was named to the first team All-EAGL on floor exercise.

Maryland will compete in the 2008 EAGL Championships Saturday at 4:00 p.m. at WVU Coliseum. The Terps look to improve their Regional Qualifying Score (RQS) in order to qualify for the NCAA Southeast Regional Championship hosted by the University of Florida on April 12 at 7:00 p.m.
