VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - After an outstanding meet at the Yale Giegenack Invitational the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) was recognized for their performances as senior standout Tanisha Wisdom (St. Catherine, Jamaica/G.C. Foster Coll.) and newcomer Allodin Fothergill (New Hempstead, N.Y./G.C. Foster Coll.) swept the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Track and Field Athlete of the Week honors. Wisdom was named the MEAC Female Athlete of the Week for her meet that saw two first place and one second place finish. Wisdom won the 400-meter dash with a time of 54.66, a new meet record. She took second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.42 and ran the third leg of the 4x400-meter relay, taking first place with a time of 3:45.06.
Wisdom has dominated in her final season, now having earned four MEAC Track and Field Athlete of the Week honors. Sophomore newcomer Fothergill, won the MEAC Male Athlete of the Week award. In his first collegiate meet, Fothergill made an impression. He won the 400-meter dash with a time of 47.92 and in the process set a new school and meet record. He then went on to set another meet record in the 200-meter dash, taking the gold with a time of 21.84. For good measure, Fothergill ran the anchor leg of the 4x400-meter relay as the team posted a time of 3:14.13, winning the event, setting a new meet record and posting the fastest time for the Hawks in that event this season. These two performers will be back in action this weekend at the New Balance Collegiate Invitational in New York, N.Y. |
