UMES CONCLUDES FLORIDA ROAD TRIP WITH BETHUNE-COOKMAN TONIGHT

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) Men's and Women's Basketball teams wrap up a two game road trip to the Sunshine State with a match-up against Bethune-Cookman University (BC-U) tonight in Moore Gymnasium.

The Lady Hawks (9-8,2-2 MEAC) enter tonight's game in search of their third consecutive win after defeating Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) opponents Florida A&M, 60-50, and Norfolk State, 88-65. April McBride (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle H.S.) has played strong in conference, averaging 18.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, and two steals per game. On the season, McBride leads the Lady Hawks with 15 points and 7.6 rebounds per game. She will be joined by Tiffany Reid (Philadelphia, Pa./National Christian Academy), the team's second leading scorer, on the wing. Reid is posting a solid 13.9 points and nabbing a team-high 2.43 steals per game.

BC-U 3-14, 0-6 MEAC) has found little success this season and comes into the game having lost seven straight, including a 71-51 decision to Delaware State on Saturday. The Wildcats are led by the trio of Natasha Ferguson, Demetria Frank, and Keturah Newkirk. Ferguson leads the team with 11.1 points and 8.6 rebounds per game, while Frank has posted a steady 10.8 points, while averaging a team-high 3.47 assists and 3.18 steals per game. Newkirk has chipped in with 9.9 points per game and is always a threat to shoot from the outside as she has connected on 34.6 percent from downtown.

UMES split the series with BC-U last season as both teams won at home. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.

The Hawks (2-18, 0-5 MEAC) enter tonight's game hoping to put an end to a nine game losing streak. UMES narrowly played spoiler to Florida A&M's homecoming but eventually fell, 72-62. Ed Tyson (Baltimore, Md./Walbrook H.S.), the MEAC's second leading scorer, is averaging 18.4 points per game and will play a key role in the Hawks success. BJ Nimocks (Detroit, Mich./Cloud County C.C.), Jahmal Bivins (Baltimore, Md./Randallstown H.S.), and Gary Lee (Flint, Mich./Northwestern University) have been integral parts of the Hawks offense in the absence of both centers and it was Lee who stepped up last game with 14 points and five rebounds.

Ed Tyson led the Hawks with 18 points in the loss to Florida A&M.


BC-U (7-12, 2-4 MEAC) will look to get back to their winning way after dropping two consecutive contests, including a 69-66 overtime defeat to Delaware State, and a 59-50 loss against Morgan State. John Holmes, a local product from Salisbury, Md., leads the Wildcats with 14.4 points and 5.8 rebounds per game, while teammate John Holmes is adding 13.5 points per game on the offensive end.

UMES is 37-19 all-time against BC-U and have six straight to the Wildcats, including a 49-48 heartbreaker in Daytona Beach last season. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
