HOUSTON, Texas - The University of Memphis men's golf team's spring season got off to a simmering start today as the Tigers are currently in second place after one round of play at the Rice Intercollegiate.

Memphis turned in a 286 in the opening round, and trail the leader, Baylor, by only four strokes. The Tigers have a ten stoke cushion over the third place occupant, the University of the Pacific who scored a 296.

Individually, the Tigers did quite well. Junior Brad Benjamin paced the squad with a 69, good for second place in the field and just two strokes behind Colton Williams of Baylor who fired a 67. Senior Robbie Greenwell and freshman Stefan Erdedi each fired a 70 and are in a three-way tie for third, giving the Tigers three of the top five finishers through 18 holes of play. Ian Rochester carded a 77 and Kyle Ritchie carded a 78 to round out Tiger individuals.

Round two, also played Monday, was suspended due to darkness. Second round play will be completed on Tuesday, followed by round three which will conclude the tournament.
