JONESBORO, Ark. - The University of Memphis men's and women's track and field teams closed out the ASU Invitational today, returning home with numerous personal bests and top finishes. Tina Sherratt and Susan King both brought home two first place finishes each, while Glen Edwards, Steffen Nerdal and Frashod Barlow each brought home one each for the men.

Sherratt won the women's mile run in a time of 5:09.68. She finished 11 seconds in front of her competition. She also won the women's 800 meters crossing the line in 2:20.08. Jessica Wright place third in the 400 meters, clocking in a time of 58.27.

Four lady tigers scored in the women's 55 meter hurdles this afternoon. Lhayana Dallas led the way with a second place finish and a time of 8.44. Holland Thomas placed fourth with 8.47, Ashley Stewart crossed in 8.60 for sixth and Eryka Morris ran a time of 8.61 taking down seventh place.

In the women's 55 meters LaShundra Kershaw and Gaylon Muhammad advanced to the finals as Kershaw recorded a time of 7.08 placing fourth and Muhammad finished in 7.37 placing seventh. Muhammad had a faster preliminary time of 7.32. She also placed fourth in the triple jump with a distance of 11.02 meters (36-02.00).

Charlotte Abrahamsen and Chen Edri took third and fourth place in the high jump this afternoon. They both had jumps of 1.63 meters (5-04.25). Due to the amount of jumps at each height Abrahamsen finished higher.

In the long jump, Morris placed third with a leap of 5.52 meters (18-01.25). Kershaw was .06 meters behind Morris leaping to a distance of 5.46 meters (17-11.00), good enough for fourth place. Wright also took part in the long jump action as she posted a mark of 5.30 meters (17-04.75).

The triple threat of King, Sivan Aballi and Abrahamsen took 1-2-3 in the women's shot put. King had a throw of 16.69 meters (54-09.25) to take first place. Aballi had a mark of 15.47 meters (50-09.25) and Abrahamsen rounded out the pack in third with a throw of 14.34 meters (47-00.75). King also took down first place in the women's weight throw with a distance of 17.71 meters (58-01.25). Angela Wigley placed fourth in the weight throw with a mark of 15.36 meters (50-04.75).

In the 4x400 meter relay the combination of Thomas, Wright, Dallas and Morris clocked a time of 4:02.53.

On the men's side Frashod Barlow won the 55 meter dash in a time of 6.43 to highlight the men's sprints. Barlow also placed ninth in the 200 meters in yesterday's action.

In the distance events, Guy Hudson placed seventh in the men's mile with a time of 4:35.32. Jarred Jones and Sam James recorded back-to-back finishes in the men's 800 meters with times of 1:59.65 and 1:59.83, respectively.

Amaechi Oselukwue recorded a time of 7.74 in the 55 meter hurdles, placing fourth. Darius Anderson finished in sixth place with a time of 7.85.

Jerome Leslie placed fourth in the high jump with a height of 1.88 meters (6-02.00). Aaron Whetstone recorded a distance of 7.11 meters (23-04.00) in the long jump placing second, only .01 off his personal best from last weekend. Leslie took eighth place with a jump of 6.47 meters (21-02.75). Whetstone and Leslie placed fourth and fifth in the triple jump with marks of 14.35 meters (47-01.00) and 13.72 meters (45-00.25).

Robbey Rasmussen leaped to a height of 4.41 meters (14-06.00) to place fifth in the pole vault. Brian Prackett placed sixth with a height of 4.26 meters (14-00.00).

Glen Edwards won the men's shot put with a throw of 17.14 meters (56-03.00). That mark beat his personal best by .08 meters and keeps him atop the conference leader board in the event. Memphis took the top four places in the event this weekend with Seth Major, Greg Norrid and Knut Syversen filing out the top four spots. Major and Norrid both posted personal bests today with throws of 16.46 meters (54-00.00) and 16.43 meters (53-11.00).

Steffen Nerdal recorded a personal best in the weight throw while also winning the event with a mark of 18.98 meters (62-03.25). His season best before today was 18.31 meters, which he recorded last weekend. Edwards had a throw of 16.06 meters (52-08.25) and Major had a mark of 15.48 meters (50-09.50) in the same event. All three men recorded personal bests.

Preston Williams placed fourth in the men's heptathlon with a score of 4,320 to round out the final day of events.

The 4x400 relay team of Anderson, Richard Lowe, Jones and James recorded a time of 3:25.13, placing fourth.
