Memphis, Tenn. -- -
The University of Memphis women's tennis team (6-7, 0-1 C-USA) will go back out on the road for a pair of non-conference matches beginning Saturday at Northwestern State University (9-4).
Memphis is coming off a 4-3 win over Southeast Missouri State, Thursday morning. The SEMO match was added to the schedule after Memphis gained an open date during the weekend at Southern University. Memphis played a doubleheader and had a third match postponed due to rain, cutting what had been three scheduled dates down to just two after the Murray State match was made up a week later.
The depth of Memphis' line-up helped the Lady Tigers come back from a doubles point loss in the SEMO match. Sophomore Marjorie Ondeck won the highest-slated singles match at No. 2, but that was the lone Memphis singles win in the top three slots. Freshman Lindsey Wiseman improved to 3-3 with a win at No. 4 singles, picking up her ninth win of the season and her fifth since dual match play began. Kristin Chamberlain improved her mark to 2-1 at No. 5 singles with her win, winning her second straight match and improving to 7-13 on the season and 4-6 in dual season play. Dara Toulch made short work of her opponent at No. 6 singles, improving to 4-3 at No. 6 and 4-6 in dual match play.
Northwestern State has won six straight matches coming in to Saturday's match-up and sports a perfect 5-0 mark in Southland Conference play. The only four losses the Demons have suffered this season have all been to Conference USA foes (UAB, Southern Miss, Rice, Houston).
Memphis will wrap up this two-match swing at McNeese State (3-7), Sunday. Senior transfer Meri Gol Alamo leads the Cowgirls with a 5-5 mark at No. 1 singles. Teammate Inga Efimenko is the only other Cowgirl with a singles mark above .500 with a 5-4 record at No. 6 singles.
