Male Athlete of the Week
Dave Newman, Men's Volleyball
Dave Newman led Mercyhurst to its first conference win in two years as the Lakers defeated Quincy in five games this week. Newman had 19 kills and 10 blocks in the victory over the Hawks, posting a stellar .571 attack percentage. The two teams played again the next day and even though Quincy turned the tables with a five-game win, Newman shone again. He had 15 kills, seven blocks and a .565 attack percentage in that contest.

Female Athlete of the Week
Rachel Griepsma, Women's Water Polo
Freshman Rachel Griepsma scored a career-high eight goals as Mercyhurst defeated Villanova 12-5 Saturday. She added seven goals earlier in the day in a 20-13 loss to Iona and finished off the week with two goals as the Lakers cruised to a 12-7 win over Utica. Griepsma now has 51 goals in 13 games this season.

Team of the Week
Women's Lacrosse
Mercyhurst rolled to three victories this week, including one over a ranked opponent, as the Lakers surpassed their 2007 win total and extended their winning streak to five games. In improving to 8-2 on the season, Mercyhurst defeated Indiana (Pa.) 20-4, No. 10 Pfeiffer 17-12 and Belmont Abbey 12-11. Breanna Haggerty had three goals and a career-high seven assists in the Lakers' win over Indiana (Pa.). Page Christensen and Kimberly Masterton added four goals each in the victory over Pfeiffer and Haggerty scored four more in the win over Belmont Abbey. Haggerty's final goal in that contest broke an 11-11 tie and was the game-winner with two minutes left.
