Male Athlete of the Week Mercyhurst goalkeeper Jason LaShomb recorded 17 saves and allowed just one goal as the Lakers upset No. 4 C.W. Post 8-1 Saturday. LaShomb set his career-high in saves and kept the Lakers' conference championship and playoff hopes alive with an All-American performance. Earlier in the week, LaShomb allowed just five goals as the Lakers rolled to a 13-5 win over Seton Hill. Female Athlete of the Week Mercyhurst midfielder Jessie Horeth had five goals and an assist as the No. 7 Lakers beat St. Andrews 15-7 and Shippensburg 17-5 on back-to-back days over the weekend. Playing with a broken finger against Shippensburg, Horeth scored three times in the first 22 minutes and finished with four goals, two ground balls and two caused turnovers. Team of the Week The Mercyhurst men's lacrosse team dominated East Coast Conference opponent C.W. Post, the No. 4 ranked team in the country, defeating the Pioneers 8-1 Saturday. C.W. Post scored early in the contest to take a 1-0 lead, but it was all Mercyhurst after that. Goalkeeper Jason LaShomb made 17 saves and defender Matt Spahr kept the Pioneers' top offensive player, Greg Cerar, from scoring a point. The win followed a 13-5 victory over Seton Hill earlier in the week in which Mike Thon had a season-high four goals and added two assists. The Lakers have now won eight consecutive games at Tullio Field and are 42-4 at home over the past eight seasons. |
