Bryant Downs Lakers, 6-2
March 1, 2008 West Palm Beach, Fla. - Red-shirt junior Scott Monzel ripped three hits and drove in two runs, but the Mercyhurst baseball team fell short against Bryant by a 6-2 final, snapping the Lakers' three-game winning streak. Despite totaling 11 hits, the Laker offense gave starter Steve Grife little support, scoring just one run in third and one in the fifth. Grive (1-1) last four innings, scattering nine hits and six runs, five of which were earned. Freshman Thurman Schaetzle tossed 3.2 shutout innings in relief, allowing just two hits and walking none. Senior shortstop Dan Bertolini scored both runs and went 1-for-3. Sophomore Jamie Walczak also tallied two hits. Bryant senior Eric Loh picked up the mound win. He allowed two runs on seven hits in six innings of work. Mercyhurst finished their annual Florida trip with a 7-4 record. The Lakers travel to Wheeling Jesuit for a pair of games on March 8-9. |
