Erie, Pa. - In the first season in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC), the Mercyhurst football team will renew its rivalry with Edinboro on a Thursday night. The administration of the two schools announced the game, scheduled to be played at Edinboro, has been moved to October 23, two days earlier than previously scheduled.

Mercyhurst has played Edinboro four times in program history, the most recent meeting being a 14-6 Edinboro victory on Sept. 16, 2000. The Lakers beat Edinboro a year earlier, picking up a 34-20 victory on Sept. 18, 1999. Edinboro also beat Mercyhurst 38-8 in 1982, the second year of the program, and beat the Lakers 74-13 a year later.

The contest will mark just the seventh time in the 27-year history of the Mercyhurst football program that a game will be contested on a day other than Saturday. The last time the Lakers played a game on a non-Saturday was a 43-37 loss to Gannon on a Thursday to open the 2004 season.

Mercyhurst went 4-7 a year ago, but set a school-record with 353 points in a season, an average of 32.1 per game. The Lakers have played football in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) since 1998 but will move to the PSAC for the 2008-09 season.
