Lakers Tie For Ninth At Outback Steakhouse Invitational

The Mercyhurst men's golf team tied for ninth out of 12 teams at the Outback Steakhouse Invitational Friday and Saturday, hosted by the University of Findlay.

The Lakers shot a 644 team score and tied Northwestern (Ohio). Wayne State won the event with a 600, followed by Ferris State with a 604 and Findlay with a 609. Among other GLIAC schools at the event, Northwood placed fourth with a 610, while Ashland and Saginaw Valley State tied for fifth with a 613. Gannon was eighth with a 639 and Northern Michigan was 11th with a 649.

Steve Barr led Mercyhurst with rounds of 77 and 81 for a 158 two-round total and a 40th place finish. Kyle Waddell was one shot behind with a 79-80 and Tyler Bidwell shot 80 on day one and 82 on day two. Ben Deets improved from an 88 on the first day to shoot an 81 on day two. Patrick Jackson finished with rounds of 84 and 85.

Three other Lakers competed at the event unattached. Ryan McNulty shot an 80-82 162 and Matt Mahoney had rounds of 88 and 80. Derek Fisher finished with an 83 on day one and an 87 on day two.

The Lakers will compete next at the St. Vincent's Invitational Thursday.
