Martin Signs Two-Year Deal with Hamilton of American Hockey League

Hamilton, Ontario - Hamilton Bulldogs General Manager Julien BriseBois announced Sunday that the club has signed former Mercyhurst blueliner Conrad Martin to a two-year AHL contract (2007-2008, 2008-2009). Hamilton is the defending Calder Cup Champions and the top affiliate of the National Hockey League's Montreal Canadiens. Martin joins former Mercyhurst defensemen Jamie Hunt and T.J. Kemp in the AHL.
Martin, 25, who was originally signed to a Professional Tryout Contract (P.T.O.) by the Bulldogs on January 2nd, 2008, has appeared in 18 games with Hamilton, posting an assist and 17 penalty minutes. The native of Toronto, Ontario made his AHL debut on January 2nd at Rockford against the IceHogs and registered his first-career AHL point, an assist, on January 9th versus the Binghamton Senators.
Prior to joining the `Dogs this season, the 6-foot-1, 215-pound defenseman appeared in 31 games with the Cincinnati Cyclones, recording two goals, eight assists, 10 points, a plus-18 rating and 68 penalty minutes. Martin has 35 points (6-29-35) and 173 penalty minutes in 101-career ECHL games with the San Diego Gulls (2005-06) and Cincinnati (2006-2008). Martin played four years (2002-060 for head coach Rick Gotkin's Lakers with the following information: 2005-06: Played in 18 games ... scored one goal and had nine assists for the 10 points ... the one goal came against UCONN (01/13/06) ... one assist came in the AH Semifinals against Canisius (03/11/06). 2004-05: Named the AH Best Defensive Defenseman ... had 17 points on two goals and 15 assists ... was +10 for the season ... AH All-Academic Team. 2003-04: Played in 33 of 36 games ... two multiple-point games ... only goals came against Holy Cross (11-15-03) and at Clarkson (1-3-04) ... tied for third in the conference in shorthanded points with two ... led team in +/- with +15. 2002-03: Played in all 37 games ... scored three goals and six assists for nine points ... member of MAAC All-Rookie Team.
