Erie, Pa. - Mercyhurst men's ice hockey head coach Rick Gotkin and his staff have a right to be proud today. 18 of the team's 26 players achieved a 3.00GPA or better on a 4.0 scale during the recently-concluded spring term while the team's overall GPA was a solid 3.15.

The team's 41-game schedule, which lasted over five months, ended in mid-March.

Seven players earned a B+-or-better in the term headed by junior defenseman Matt Fennell, who carried a perfect 4.0. Fennell was one of three Atlantic Hockey Student Athletes of the Year for the 2006-2007 season. The conference has not released its 2007-08 academic winners as yet.
