Lakers Drop One Spot To No. 3 Despite Winning Season Opener

Feb. 25, 2008

Erie, Pa. - Despite opening the season with a convincing 9-3 win on the road against Queens (N.C.), the Mercyhurst men's lacrosse team dropped one spot to No. 3 in the first United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Coaches Poll of the 2008 season.

Mercyhurst dropped below East Coast Conference opponent New York Institute of Technology. Both teams trail two-time defending national champion Le Moyne. Le Moyne received seven of eight first place votes and 79 total points. NYIT received the other first place vote and 73 points. Mercyhurst had 70 points.

Limestone follows at No. 4, a distant 18 votes behind Mercyhurst, and Bryant is No. 5. ECC schools Dowling and C.W. Post are tied for No. 6 and Merrimack is No. 8. Molly and St. Michael's round out the top 10.

Mercyhurst will be back in action Wednesday at St. Andrews at 4 p.m.
