Lewis Handles Lakers In Three
Feb. 2, 2008
Erie, Pa. - The Mercyhurst men's volleyball team struggled to find any rhythm, losing a conference match to Lewis 30-18, 30-23, 30-22 Saturday. The Lakers hit just .153 for the match in losing to the Flyers in three games. Mercyhurst struggled out of the gate and fell behind 14-6 in the game one as Lewis rolled to a 30-18 win. The Lakers' best play came in game two as Mercyhurst hung close until late in the frame. A Bryan Ritter kill tied the score at 19-19 and forced Lewis to call a timeout. The Flyers came out of the break with three consecutive points and followed it up with a six-point spurt that game them the win. In game three, the Lakers took a 7-6 lead early but Lewis scored five straight and Mercyhurst never got closer than two points the rest of the way. Ron Cierniakoski led Mercyhurst with eight kills and had a .333 attack percentage on 15 swings. He also had a team-high four blocks. Lewis improves to 4-4 on the year and 1-2 in MIVA play. Mercyhurst falls to 0-9 on the year and 0-3 in conference. The Lakers will be back in action Wednesday at D'Youville at 7 p.m. in a non-conference tilt. |
