Mercyhurst Unable to Hold On In 91-72 Loss to Saginaw Valley

Erie, Pa. - The Mercyhurst women's basketball team held a 46-42 halftime lead over the Saginaw Valley Cardinals but could not put two halves together, losing 91-72 Saturday. Four Lakers scored in double-digits and Amy Achesinski led Mercyhurst with 23 points. The Cardinals took advantage of Mercyhurst's defense to start the second half, going on a 25-6 run to take the lead 67-52 at 12:39. The Lakers never fully recovered and were only able to get as close as eight the rest of the game. Saginaw Valley helped their cause by outrebounding the lakers 26013 in the second half. In the first half, Mercyhurst jumped out to an early 23-13 lead eight minutes into the contest. Stephanie Prischak led the run with seven points. The Lakers pushed the ball offensively; shooting 7-for-11 from the three-point arc and 17-for-28 from the field. Mercyhurst led by as many as 13 points and never lost the lead. Prischak ended the game with 12 points and four rebounds. Mara Dreiser also tied her career high with 12 points for the Lakers and brought down four rebounds. Samantha Loadman contributed offensively as well with 11 points. Mercyhurst slides to 6-16 this year and 1-11 in the GLIAC. Saginaw Valley moves to 2-10 in conference play and 9-12 overall. The Lakers will continue their four game home stand when they play host to Wayne State Thursday. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. |
