Lakers Open Spring Campaign At Northern Kentucky

Perry Park, Ky. - The Mercyhurst women's golf team opened its spring schedule Saturday and Sunday at the Northern Kentucky Spring Invitational at Perry Park Golf Course. Caitlin Cummings shot rounds of 92 and 91 as the Lakers finished 20th out of 21 teams at the event.

All five Mercyhurst golfers shot within 12 strokes of each other and the Lakers showed the third-best improvement from day one to day two. The team shot a 381 during the opening round but improved to 366 in round two for a two-day total of 747.

Grand Valley State won the event with a 621, followed by Indianapolis with 624 and Ferris State with 627. Findlay tied for eighth with a 660 and Ashland was 12th with a 666. Northwood shot a 700 to place 16th and Gannon was 19th with a 707.

Cummings' 183 was one stroke better than Kaitlin Brody, who shot identical rounds of 92. Alanna Kirwan had a 95-92 and Mattye Laurer improved from a 102 on day one to tie for team-best honors with a 91 on day two. Arielle Chong also made strong improvement, shooting a 102 and a 93. Lauren Montebell competed as an individual and finished with rounds of 107 and 113.

Mercyhurst will head back to the links Saturday and Sunday at the Ashland Invitational.
