Agosta Named College Hockey America Player of the Year

All-Academic Release in PDF Format Mercyhurst sophomore forward Meghan Agosta was named College Hockey America (CHA) Player of the Year Thursday night during the annual year-end awards ceremony held on the eve of the CHA Tournament. Meanwhile, freshman forward Vicki Bendus picked up Rookie of the Year honors and senior Stephanie Jones was selected Student Athlete of the Year. Despite missing four games late in the season, Agosta led the Lakers in goals (37), points (61), power play goals (9), shorthanded goal (7), and game-winning goals (9). She was joined on the CHA First Team by junior defenseman Natalie Payne (3g, 21a, 24pts).Mercyhurst's lone representative on the CHA Second Team was junior forward Valerie Chouinard (14g, 33a, 47pts). Bendus (10g, 21a, 31pts) was joined on the All-Rookie Team by forward Jesse Scanzano (13g, 24a, 37pts), defenseman Geena Prough (9g, 10a, 19pts), and defenseman Cassea Schols (5g, 12a, 17pts). Jones, the team captain, will graduate this May with a degree in Business Marketing. She has 13 goals and 23 assists in 34 games. Eight Mercyhurst players made the All-Academic Team. To earn the honor, a student-athlete must have completed at least one year of residency at her present institution prior to the start of the current academic year. The student-athlete must have a GPA of at least 3.00 on a 4.00 scale for the previous two semesters or three quarters, or an overall GPA of at least 3.00 for all terms at her present institution.
