Annapolis, Md. - The No.8 Mercyhurst Lakers women's lacrosse team defeated No.10 Pfeiffer Falcons 16-11 Saturday. Page Christensen and Kimberly Masterton led the Lakers with four goals a piece and Breanna Haggerty contributed another three in the victory. This is first time that the Lakers have defeated Pfeiffer in four years and the second time this season that Mercyhurst has been victorious over a ranked team. The Lakers now improve to 7-2 overall, tying their win total from the 2007 season.

In the first half, the Lakers never trailed the Falcons and led by as many as four goals but Pfeiffer continued to fight back to end the half with the Lakers leading 8-6.

In the second half, Mercyhurst stepped up its play on the draw and started finishing opportunities on the offensive end. The Lakers pulled out to a 15-7 led with 15 minutes left in regulation. Pfeiffer got within four with seven minutes left before Mercyhurst put in an insurance goal and locked down on defense to pull out the 16-11 win.

Goalkeeper Maeve McGoff played fantastic in goal for the Lakers for the third game in a row and made some huge saves in the final ten minutes.

Mercyhurst will have one day off before facing Belmont Abbey Sunday at 2 p.m.
