Lakers Soar to Sixth Consecutive Win With 15-7 Victory Over St.Andrews

Erie, Pa. - The No.7 Mercyhurst women's lacrosse team set a school record with its sixth consecutive win by defeating the St.Andrews Knights 15-7 Saturday. All-American candidate Breanna Haggerty led the Lakers with seven goals. Mercyhurst now improves to 9-2 overall, while St.Andrews drops to 5-10.

Mercyhurst started the scoring off with a free-position goal from Kristen Toomey at the 24:47 mark. The Knights' Kelsey Binggeli would fire back though at the 20 minute mark to tie the game at one. Mercyhurst then exploded on a 6-0 run.

Page Christensen added two goals in the run, while Breanna Haggerty, Courtney Olevnik, Elizabeth Tice, and Maria Rosettie all contributed one. St.Andrews would add two more goals before Haggerty would score with one second left in the first half to give the Lakers an 8-3 advantage.

In the second half, Haggerty posted five of the Lakers seven goals to bring her season total to 56 goals. Toomey would add her second goal of the game at the 15:58 mark and classmate Jessie Horeth tallied one goal with five minutes left in the contest.

On the defensive end, junior defender Beth O'Neil held St.Andrews Kerrie Brown to no goals and one assist. Brown came into the game ranked eighth in goals per game (4.14) in the country. Goalkeeper Maeve McGoff tallied 10 saves in the win and teammate Jessica Raniero posted one save.

Mercyhurst fired off 35 shots to the Knights' 26 and pulled in 13 draw controls to St.Andrews' 10. Each team was called on 23 fouls and seven yellow cards were issued in the game.

Mercyhurst has a short turnaround as it faces Shippensburg Sunday at 1 p.m.
