Erie, Pa. - The Mercyhurst women's lacrosse team is ranked No. 10 in the first Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) poll of 2008. Coming off of a 7-5 campaign in 2007, the Lakers open the season Friday at Lees-McRae.

Defending national champion CW Post received five of ten first place votes to be ranked No. 1 and West Chester followed with four first place votes. Limestone got the only other first place vote and was ranked No. 3. Stonehill, Adelphi and Lock Haven followed. Pfeiffer was No. 7 and another Erie school, Gannon, was No. 8. Queens was right in front of Mercyhurst at No. 9.

After playing Lees-McRae Friday, Mercyhurst will play at Rollins Sunday before playing Notre Dame (Ohio) at Rollins College Tuesday. The Lakers will complete their spring break trip by playing at Presbyterian Thursday, Feb. 28. Mercyhurst opens its home campaign March 22 by hosting No. 9 Queens.
