Ferris State Shuts Out Lakers In Doubleheader Sweep
March 30, 2008
Big Rapids, Mich. - The Mercyhurst softball team was shut out for two games as Ferris State swept the Lakers 5-0 and 10-0 in a GLIAC doubleheader Sunday. The Bulldogs used big first innings in both games to put the contests away. Ferris State's Katie Kraai hit a three-run first inning homer in game one to take a quick lead but Mercyhurst had a chance to cut into the deficit in the third. Annie Dragolich led off with a single and stole second. The next batter, Kara Gorgos, reached on an error that put runners on the corners with no outs. However, Ferris State pitcher Sarah Mueller got a strikeout, fielder's choice and line out to end the threat. The Bulldogs added a run in the third and another in the fifth to put the game away. Mercyhurst did have a runner on third with just one out in the fifth but was unable to push a run across. In game two, Ferris State put together eight hits in the first inning and was aided by a pair of Mercyhurst errors to score 10 runs, only four of which were earned. Amanda Norman came on to pitch the final 4 2/3 innings without allowing an earned run, but the Lakers posted just one hit and were unable to rally. Ferris State improved to 11-8 on the year and 4-0 in GLIAC play, while Mercyhurst fell to 11-13 overall and 0-4 in conference. The Lakers will host Clarion in a non-conference doubleheader Tuesday beginning at 3 p.m. |
