Women's Water Polo Falls at Michigan
March 15, 2008 Ann Arbor, Mich. - The Mercyhurst women's water polo team was held to a season-low four goals and 12th-ranked Michigan notched its second win of the season over the Lakers by a 15-4 score Saturday at the University of Michigan Invitational. While the Lakers are off to a solid 6-3 start, two of the losses have come to Michigan. Saturday, the Wolverines held freshman standout Rachel Griepsma scoreless for the first time in her career. She has totaled 27 goals in nine games, but has totaled just one in two games against Michigan. Michigan jumped out to an early advantage, outscoring Lakers 5-1 in the opening frame and built on a 6-2 halftime lead with a six-goal third period. Chrissy Genian led the Lakers with a pair of goals and a steal. Jacqueline Phillips added a goal and a steal. Christine Somera totaled a goal and three drawn ejections. Rhonda Marable posted a team-high two assists and two steals. Mercyhurst concludes play at the University of Michigan Invitational Saturday evening against Carthage. |
