Women's Water Polo Tops Utica, 12-7
March 30, 2008 Philadelphia, Pa. - The Mercyhurst women's water polo team received at least two goals from four players in a 12-7 victory over Utica at Villanova University Sunday afternoon. The Lakers ran away with the game early, scoring six goals in the first and four in the second period before coasting victory. Leading the way was senior Christine Somera, who totaled three goals, one assist and three steals. Senior Carrie Willison also tallied two goals and two assists, Rachel Griepsma and Chrissy Becks also scored two goals. Cathi Korenich made her second start of the season in goal and totaled seven saves and one assist. It was the eighth time this season that the Lakers held their opponents to seven goals or less and are now 8-0 when doing so. With the win, the Lakers improved their season record to 9-4. They return to Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Western Division action on April 4 at Slippery Rock. Game time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. |
